Metro Line 4 Trial Run Begins; Full Operations By 2027, Says CM Fadnavis

September 22, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday (September 22, 2025) flagged off the trial run of Metro Line 4A at Thane’s Cadbury Junction-Gaimukh section, marking a significant milestone for the region’s transport infrastructure. He announced, “The construction of Metro line 4 will be finished by the end of 2026 and fully operational by 2027, with 21 lakh people travelling daily on the line.”

The 10.5-km Cadbury Junction-Gaimukh stretch, forming part of the larger 32.3 km Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavali Metro-4 corridor, is expected to be open for commuters by December, after mandatory approvals. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is overseeing the project, confirmed that this is the first phase of the Wadala to Kasarvadavali corridor.

Metro Line 4, spanning 58 km from Thane to Mumbai, will feature 32 stations. The Metro 4A section alone will have six-coach trains with stops at Majiwada, Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikuji-ni-Wadi, Dongri Pada, Vijay Garden, Kasarvadavali, and Gowniwada. Mr. Fadnavis further stated, “The daily influx on Metro 4 A line will be over 13 lakhs. Our steps are to open all the metro lines by the end of next year. With the availability of land in the Mogharpada depot, the work of metro 4, 10, and 11 has started.”

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed the trial run as “historic” for Thane. “The railway in Thane was inaugurated in 1853; today, after 172 years, Thane is going to get a new mode of transport,” he said.  Shinde also highlighted plans to build a metro loop connecting Thane to CST and additional internal metro lines linking Kalayan-Dombivali-Bhiwandi, Swami Samarth Nagar to Kanjurmarg, Kapurwadi to Kalyan, Gaimukh to Mira-Bhayandar, and Wadala to CST.
