September 22, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has carried out a demolition drive in the Vashi division targeting unauthorised construction that persisted despite official notices. The action was executed under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with guidance from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
The case involved a building in Juhugaon, Vashi, owned by Ranjana Madhukar Bhoir, who had commenced construction without obtaining permission from NMMC. The civic body had earlier issued a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, directing voluntary removal of the unauthorised structure. However, construction continued in violation of the order.
During the demolition drive, the Vashi division team partially removed the unauthorised portion of the building. The operation was attended by Assistant Commissioner Sukhdev Yedve, Junior Engineer Mangesh Meher, and officials from the encroachment department. Police personnel from the encroachment squad and local stations were deployed to ensure security and smooth execution of the operation.
The civic body used one JCB machine, 15 labourers, eight dumpers, two breakers, and a gas cutter to carry out the demolition efficiently. Officials stated that the corporation will continue to strengthen anti-encroachment operations across the city.
Despite repeated notices and legal warnings, the persistence of illegal construction prompted enforcement action. With adequate manpower, machinery, and police support, the NMMC ensured compliance with urban planning laws. Authorities confirmed that further demolition campaigns will be intensified to deter unauthorised constructions and safeguard planned urban development across Navi Mumbai.
