September 23, 2025: Mumbai BJP Chief Ameet Satam has stated that the inauguration of Metro Line 3 will bring a transformative shift to the city’s commuting patterns, particularly by alleviating congestion on the Western Express Highway.
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Satam emphasised the far-reaching impact of the project, saying, “The metro is going to change the way we live in the city forever and ensure ease of living for Mumbaikars. Specifically, this underground metro from Colaba to SEEPZ is going to have a major impact on the entire traffic as far as the Western Express Highway is concerned and the entire road leading up to South Mumbai.”
The Western Express Highway, which stretches from Dahisar to Bandra, is one of Mumbai’s busiest arterial roads. Every day, thousands of vehicles crowd the corridor, resulting in severe delays, particularly during peak hours. With the launch of Metro Line 3, commuters are expected to shift from road transport to the faster underground service, significantly reducing the vehicular load on this crucial route.
Officials have highlighted that Metro Line 3 is not only intended to improve travel times but also to enhance overall quality of life for Mumbaikars. The fully underground line, running from Colaba in South Mumbai to SEEPZ in the north, is designed to provide a reliable, high-capacity alternative to road travel, catering to daily commuters, office-goers, and residents along the route.
By offering a faster, safer, and more efficient mode of transport, the new metro line is projected to ease traffic pressure on key city corridors, particularly the Western Express Highway, and encourage greater use of public transport. City planners and commuters alike are anticipating a notable improvement in daily travel experience once the line becomes operational.
