September 23, 2025: The Encroachment Department of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook a demolition operation in the Koparkhairane division earlier this week after the parties concerned failed to comply with prior notices.
The action was carried out on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, under the guidance of Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad. Civic officials confirmed that the drive formed part of a broader campaign against unauthorised construction across the city.
In Koparkhairane, a notice had been issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, to Rajpal Hospital, operated by Mr Akash Nandlal Rajpal, situated on Plot No. 13, Sector 10. Despite the notice, construction work continued illegally, prompting the NMMC to carry out partial demolition of the structure. Alongside the demolition, a fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed and recovered from the violators.
The operation was supervised by Assistant Commissioner Bharat Dhandhe and Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre, with support from municipal staff and police personnel. The civic body deployed four labourers, two electronic hammers, a pickup van, and one JCB machine to execute the clearance.
Officials stated that the corporation intends to intensify such anti-encroachment measures throughout Navi Mumbai to enforce planning regulations and curb unauthorised development. “Safeguarding civic norms and maintaining discipline in urban planning remain a top priority,” an official said.
The drive highlighted the coordinated efforts of senior officers, engineers, workers, and police teams. Authorities added that similar actions will continue in the coming weeks to ensure adherence to legal frameworks and to prevent unregulated construction from hampering the city’s planned growth.
