Kharghar Residents Decry Pothole-Ridden Road Stretch Near Central Park

September 30, 2025: Motorists and residents in Kharghar have raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of a key 4 km stretch connecting Tawa Hotel to Tata Hospital (ACTREC) via Central Park. The road, which runs from Sector 2 to Sector 36, is plagued by potholes and waterlogging, causing daily inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians alike.

The corridor serves as a vital link, connecting CISF and CRPF colonies, the Gurudwara and the ISKCON temple, and experiences heavier traffic than many other routes in the area. It is also frequently used by joggers heading towards Central Park. Locals argue that such poor infrastructure undermines the rationale for paying property tax, especially with the amnesty scheme set to conclude on September 30.

Nandu Warungase, a Kharghar resident, said, “A large number of potholes of varied sizes have appeared along this stretch. Improper drainage has worsened the problem, making it hazardous for motorists. The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has turned a blind eye to repeated complaints.”

Another resident, Jaysing Mane from Sector 2, demanded quality checks on completed roadworks. “Many bikers skid and fall on this road,” he noted. Sector 16 resident Kaushal Sharma echoed these concerns, observing that repairs fail to last even six months. “Most nodal roads are in poor shape,” he added.

When approached, PCMC city engineer Sanjay Katekar confirmed that some work is underway. “Concretisation has begun at the junctions near Tawa Hotel and Tata Hospital road. Asphalt resurfacing of the remaining stretch will commence within 15 days,” he assured.

Residents, however, remain sceptical, stressing the need for durable and accountable roadworks to ensure the safety of daily users. Until then, the battered road remains a source of frustration and risk for the community.
