September 30, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition operation on Monday against unauthorised construction in Belapur, following repeated warnings that went unheeded.
The action was undertaken under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, with supervision from Additional Commissioner (II) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
Officials stated that a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act had previously been served to Laxmi Kashinath Bose, owner of House No. 1215/02 in Divale Village, Sector 14, Navi Mumbai, directing her to remove the illegal construction. Despite this warning, work on the property continued unabated.
Consequently, the encroachment department organised a demolition drive to remove the unauthorised structure. The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Dr. Amol Palwe and Assistant Engineer Atmaram Kale, with assistance from ten labourers, three hammers, a gas cutter, and a Poclain machine. Police personnel and security staff from the encroachment department were deployed to ensure order during the operation.
An NMMC official stated: “Despite repeated notices, the illegal construction was not removed. We were left with no option but to demolish it. This is part of our ongoing campaign against encroachments, and similar actions will be intensified in the future.”
The civic body reiterated that it would continue to take strict measures to prevent unauthorised construction across all its wards, emphasising its commitment to maintaining urban planning norms and ensuring public safety. The NMMC’s ongoing campaign reflects a firm stance against encroachments and serves as a warning to property owners considering illegal development.
