October 4, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorised construction, carrying out a demolition drive in Sector 21, Ghansoli, after property owner and developer Jaywant Gaikar was found to be building without approval.
According to civic officials, the encroachment department discovered that Gaikar had commenced reinforced cement concrete work for the ground-floor columns, while the first-floor slab was already underway. This was despite a prior notice served under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, directing the owner to voluntarily halt and remove the illegal construction.
With no compliance forthcoming, NMMC proceeded with enforcement action. The operation was conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with supervision from Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gete and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad. A second demolition drive was then organised at the site.
The demolition involved eight labourers, three breakers and a gas cutter, and was overseen on the ground by Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Uttam Kharat, along with Junior Engineer Ritesh Purav, staff from the encroachment department, and police personnel deployed to maintain law and order.
Municipal officials emphasised that such drives are part of a wider effort to curb illegal building activities across Navi Mumbai. They underlined that repeated notices and legal directives cannot be disregarded, and decisive enforcement will follow if violations persist.
“The demolition at Ghansoli demonstrates the corporation’s firm commitment to act against unauthorised developments,” said an official, noting that similar measures will continue across the city.
The action highlights the civic body’s resolve to ensure regulatory compliance, safeguard urban planning norms, and send a clear message that illegal construction will not be tolerated.
