October 4, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mumbai on October 8 and 9 to inaugurate landmark infrastructure projects and launch a large-scale youth skill development initiative. Maharashtra’s Skill Development Minister, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, described the programmes as a “Diwali gift” for the city.
Modi will arrive at the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) at 2:30 pm on October 8, travelling aboard India One, the specially equipped Boeing 777 used for VVIP travel. Upon landing, he will formally inaugurate the long-awaited airport. From the same venue, the Prime Minister will also virtually inaugurate the Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ Metro Line 3 and launch a training initiative for 75,000 young people under the state’s Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department.
On October 9, Modi is scheduled to address a major fintech event in Mumbai before concluding his visit. The state government has additionally proposed naming NMIA after late P&W Party leader D.B. Patil, in recognition of his contribution to the region.
The inauguration of the Worli–Cuffe Parade section will render the entire 33.5-km Metro Aqua Line operational. This is Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor, designed to ease congestion and provide faster, more sustainable transport.
Metro Line 3 has been launched in phases: the Aarey–JVLR to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) stretch opened in October 2024, followed by the BKC–Worli Acharya Atre Chowk section in May 2025. Both sections have already reported strong ridership.
The fully operational corridor will connect six business districts, 30 office hubs, 12 educational institutions, 11 hospitals, and 25 cultural landmarks, while linking directly to suburban rail at Churchgate and CSMT.
Minister Lodha said these projects will “strengthen Mumbai’s infrastructure, improve connectivity, and create greater opportunities for youth.”
