Delhi-Mumbai Expressway To Open By March 2026, Journey Time Cut To 12 Hours

October 06, 2025: India’s ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, one of the country’s largest road infrastructure projects, is slated for completion by March 2026. Once operational, the 1,386-kilometer, six-lane expressway will slash travel time between Delhi and Mumbai from 24 hours to just 12, providing a faster, safer, and more convenient route for commuters, freight, and tourists alike.

The expressway is now in its final construction phase, according to South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri. The stretch connecting Delhi’s DND Flyway to Mumbai’s Sarai Kale Khan is nearing completion, with finishing touches like road signage, safety barriers, pavement markings, high-tech toll plazas, and advanced traffic management systems being installed.

Key features of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway include cutting-edge design for durability and reduced maintenance, dedicated emergency lanes, advanced lighting, traffic monitoring systems, and eco-friendly initiatives such as solar power integration, rainwater harvesting, and sustainable construction materials. Several interchanges along the route will ensure smooth access to towns and cities en route, improving regional connectivity.

The benefits are substantial. The reduced travel time will facilitate faster business and tourism, enhance freight movement, and improve commuting comfort with modern amenities, rest stops, and fuel stations. Smaller towns and cities along the corridor will also see increased economic opportunities and better access to major urban centers.

The expressway is part of a larger vision to strengthen India’s national highway network, complementing projects like the Bharatmala Pariyojana and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, aimed at boosting connectivity and easing congestion around Delhi.

“The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will revolutionize intercity travel, significantly cutting journey times while supporting economic growth and regional development,” experts say. By March 2026, this transformative project will connect two of India’s largest economic hubs in just half a day, marking a milestone in the country’s infrastructure journey.
