BMC Chief Bhushan Gagrani Reviews GMLR And Coastal Road (North) Projects, Directs Faster Execution

October 07, 2025: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani conducted an on-site inspection of key infrastructure projects in Mumbai on Saturday, including the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) and the Coastal Road (North) corridor. He visited the twin tunnel site at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari under Phase 3(B) of the GMLR project and the Versova–Bhayander section of the Coastal Road (North).

During his review, Gagrani assessed the project layouts, held discussions with engineers, and issued directives to expedite work. He emphasised the need for swift approvals, stating that all necessary permissions and no-objection certificates (NOCs) for the Coastal Road (North) must be secured immediately. He also instructed officials to fast-track land acquisition in areas impacted by the project alignment to avoid further delays.

Deputy Commissioner (Infrastructure) Shashank Bhore, Chief Engineer (Bridges) Uttam Shrote, and Assistant Commissioner Kundan Valvi were among the officials accompanying Gagrani. The inspection also covered progress on the six-lane flyover between Dindoshi Court and Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari — a vital component of Phase 3(A) of the GMLR. Out of 31 piers, 27 are completed, while work continues on the remaining four near Ratnagiri Junction.

The 1,265-meter flyover, built using box girders and reinforced concrete, will include a pedestrian bridge with escalators. According to project timelines, approach roads will be completed by early 2026, with the flyover expected to open for traffic by May 16, 2026.

The Rs 14,000-crore GMLR project will connect the Western Express Highway at Goregaon with the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, cutting travel time between the two suburbs from 75 minutes to just 25. Once operational, it will provide seamless east-west connectivity and significantly reduce congestion across Mumbai.
