October 7, 2025: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has commenced partial construction of the long-pending missing service road link in Kamothe, along the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Sion–Panvel highway. The new stretch, once completed, will provide motorists with smoother access to the Kamothe node through the Kalamboli underpass and help ease congestion in the area.
The ongoing work covers the section between the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Jawahar Industrial Estate, near MGM Hospital, and the main entrance to Kamothe. Residents and local organisations have long demanded that the service road be extended fully to improve last-mile connectivity.
“The demand is to link the entire service road from Kamothe’s main entrance to MGM Hospital so that residents can access the Kalamboli subway and avoid traffic bottlenecks,” said Amol Shitole, president of Ekta Samajik Sanstha. Social activist Alpesh Mane added that work has begun between Parth Hotel and Tharwani Building, while Kalamboli Traffic Unit’s Senior Police Inspector, Ajay Bhosale, has urged CIDCO’s engineering department to expedite the project and minimise traffic disruptions.
Local resident Jaykumar Digole said that due to the missing link, commuters currently have to use the main highway to access the nearby CNG pump, leading to unnecessary traffic delays. “MIDC should cooperate and allow the remaining part of the link to be developed,” he said.
CIDCO’s Executive Engineer for Kamothe, Rohini Yeware, confirmed that construction on one section has begun but noted that the planning department is still reviewing proposals for completing the remaining stretch of the service road.
Once fully developed, the service road is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Kamothe and Kalamboli while reducing vehicular congestion on the busy Sion–Panvel corridor.
