October 07, 2025: In a bid to boost multimodal connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed officials to explore linking the upcoming Mhatardi bullet train station in Thane with nearby railway and metro networks. The move aims to establish Mhatardi—located near Diva—as a key integrated transport hub on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor.
During a review meeting held at the MSRDC office, Shinde instructed officials from the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MahaRail) and the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) to examine direct connectivity between Mhatardi, Thane railway station, Kopar railway station, and the Taloja Metro line. The meeting was also attended by Shinde’s Principal Secretary, Naveen Sona.
According to officials, Mhatardi is envisioned as a major junction integrating the bullet train with suburban rail, metro, and bus services, as well as nearby highways. MahaRail presented a conceptual plan showing how the proposed links could ensure smoother passenger transitions between modes of transport.
Shinde emphasized that the proposal should be executed in coordination with NHSRCL and the Ministry of Railways to ensure timely progress. Sources said NHSRCL has responded positively and will forward the integration proposal for approval to the ministry.
Once operational, the connectivity initiative is expected to greatly improve last-mile access and ease congestion across Thane, Kopar, and Navi Mumbai’s Taloja region. “This integration will make Mhatardi a true multimodal hub, ensuring fast and seamless connectivity for commuters across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,” Shinde said, according to officials present at the meeting.
