CM Fadnavis Says, “Gateway To Maharashtra’s Development” As NMIA And Metro Projects Take Shape

October 08, 2025: Maharashtra’s former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been instrumental in shaping Mumbai’s current infrastructure transformation, steering projects that integrate urban transit modernisation with broader city development. As a key coordinator, Fadnavis oversaw the planning, approvals, and execution of major initiatives, ensuring that both citizens and businesses understand the benefits despite temporary traffic disruptions.

He has actively communicated the strategic importance of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), participating in foundational events alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 and frequently highlighting the project on social media. “NMIA is a historic moment and a gateway to Maharashtra’s development,” Fadnavis has said, underscoring its potential to generate over 200,000 jobs, enhance global connectivity, and strengthen Mumbai’s position as an international investment and logistics hub.

The airport, built with world-class, fully digital infrastructure and inspired architecturally by the lotus flower, is designed to offer efficient passenger transit while integrating with metro lines, road networks, tunnels, and public transport systems. “Currently, 13,000 to 14,000 workers are involved in the work daily, and we have asked the authorities to increase their strength by one-and-a-half times or double by September 30, because other licences are complete, but for commercial operations, all work has to be finished,” Fadnavis stated during the 94% completion update.

Under his guidance, Maharashtra launched a comprehensive connectivity plan linking NMIA with metro, suburban rail, waterways, and roads. Key initiatives include new elevated corridors, the Atal Setu-Coastal Road link, and enhanced access via the four-lane Aamra Marg and National Highway 4B. CIDCO is developing the six-lane Ulwe and Kharghar Coastal Roads, set to be completed by early 2026, ensuring seamless integration with the airport.

Fadnavis’s vision positions Mumbai’s infrastructure network as a model for urban connectivity, blending modern architecture, smart transit, and multimodal accessibility to redefine commuting and regional development.
