October 08, 2025: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Wednesday hailed Mumbai’s rapidly expanding infrastructure as a model for global urban mobility during his address at the Global Fintech Fest 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre. “This whole web of infrastructure is going to guarantee that every citizen of Mumbai can commute from home to work (or anywhere in the city) in less than one hour. This kind of infrastructure, I don’t think you can find anywhere in the world,” he stated, highlighting the city’s transformative urban planning.
Goyal’s remarks preceded the inauguration of the world-class Navi Mumbai International Airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a project designed to ease congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and enhance regional connectivity. “Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai airport in a couple of hours. It is world-class,” he added.
The minister also spotlighted other key infrastructure projects shaping Mumbai’s future, including the Colaba-Worli metro line, soon to extend to Sahar and Andheri, the Coastal Road’s northward expansion toward Vasai, Mira Bhayandar, and Virar, and twin tunnels linking west and east Mumbai under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Aarey Milk Colony. He praised the recently opened Atal Setu bridge, emphasising how these developments collectively form a seamless urban transport network.
Linking infrastructure to India’s broader economic ambitions, Goyal underscored fintech’s role in driving national growth. “Viksit Bharat cannot happen without the adoption of technology,” he noted, highlighting India’s rise from a $300 billion economy three decades ago to a $4 trillion powerhouse today, with projections to reach USD 32 trillion by 2047. He stressed the importance of trust in fintech, stating, “Trust is the only currency that never depreciates; it only appreciates,” while reiterating the government’s focus on infrastructure, consumption-led growth, and macroeconomic stability.
As the Global Fintech Fest continues, attention now turns to high-profile addresses by Prime Minister Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, promising insights into global fintech collaboration and innovation.
