October 9, 2025: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, on Wednesday claimed that Mumbai’s expanding infrastructure network would soon allow citizens to travel anywhere in the city within an hour. Speaking at the sixth edition of the Global Fintech Fest 2025, held at the Jio Convention Centre, Goyal said the government’s sustained focus on infrastructure, economic growth, and trade is propelling India towards its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The minister made the remarks on a day marked by the inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport and the final phase of Metro Line 3, connecting Worli to Colaba. “A coastal road will soon extend to Vasai and Virar, while twin tunnels under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park will link the city’s western and eastern corridors,” Goyal said. “This integrated web of projects will ensure that every Mumbaikar can commute from home to work in under an hour. I doubt any city in the world will match this level of connectivity,” he added.
Goyal emphasised India’s digital transformation, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for turning the country into a global fintech leader. “Technology has become the driver of inclusive growth. With over a billion internet users, India stands as a beacon of digital empowerment. Trust has become our strongest currency—it only appreciates,” he said.
Outlining India’s ambitions to become a USD 35-trillion economy by 2047, the minister urged global investors to recognise the nation’s immense potential. He also recalled landmark government initiatives such as Digital India, Start-up India, and Aadhar, which he said had laid the groundwork for rapid development.
“This vision of empowering every citizen to think big and aim high defines India’s growth story,” Goyal concluded.
