October 13, 2025: Maharashtra is witnessing a major transformation in its infrastructure landscape, with two landmark projects taking centre stage — the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and the Mumbai Metro Line 3.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the first phase of NMIA, marking a significant milestone for the state’s economic growth. Designed to be India’s most technologically advanced airport, NMIA will have the capacity to handle 90 million passengers annually, according to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Setting new benchmarks in passenger experience, the airport has introduced a modern food hall concept, replacing the traditional food court, and installed seven circular LED screens at the exit gates to enhance aesthetics and navigation. The upcoming Terminal 4, expected to be operational by 2036, is anticipated to play a crucial role in driving the growth of Maharashtra’s and India’s aviation sectors.
In another major step forward, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the final phase of the 33.5-kilometre Mumbai Metro Line 3, a fully underground corridor featuring 27 stations. Together, these landmark projects are set to redefine urban mobility and strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a hub of innovation and modern infrastructure.
