BMC Conducts Workshop With Developers To Curb Construction Dust And Improve Mumbai’s Air Quality

October 14, 2025: With Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 139 — categorised as moderate by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) — the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up efforts to tackle rising pollution levels. On October 13, the civic body conducted a workshop for real estate developers to reinforce the importance of effective dust mitigation measures at construction sites.

The initiative is part of BMC’s Mumbai Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan (MAPMP), which identifies construction dust as one of the key contributors to the city’s declining air quality. Officials emphasised the need for strict compliance with environmental guidelines to ensure sustainable development and reduce particulate emissions.

The workshop brought together representatives from leading industry associations, including the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), CREDAI-MCHI, and the Practice Engineers, Architects, and Town Planners Association (PITA). Participants discussed best practices and technologies for dust control and explored collaborative strategies to enhance on-ground implementation.

Through such initiatives, BMC aims to strengthen partnerships with developers and stakeholders to make Mumbai’s construction sector more environmentally responsible.
