Samruddhi Expressway To Link Directly To Mumbai Via Rs 6,000 Crore Elevated Corridor

October 14, 2025: The Maharashtra Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has unveiled a landmark infrastructure project worth Rs 6,000 crore to connect the Samruddhi Expressway directly to Mumbai through a 29 km elevated corridor between Aamne and Saket in Thane district. The project aims to alleviate severe traffic congestion faced by commuters traveling from the Samruddhi Highway toward Thane and Mumbai.

Currently, vehicles coming from the 701-km Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway face long jams after reaching Aamne near Bhiwandi. During peak hours, the 29 km stretch to Thane can take up to two hours. The new elevated road will allow vehicles to bypass these bottlenecks, enabling seamless travel to Thane and onward to Mumbai.

In addition, a 13 km, three-lane extension of the Eastern Freeway is underway from Chheda Nagar in Ghatkopar to Anand Nagar in Thane, costing Rs 2,682 crore. This extension will merge with the Aamne–Saket–Anand Nagar corridor, providing motorists from the Samruddhi Highway with direct access to South Mumbai via the Eastern Freeway.

The Aamne–Saket segment will be followed by an 8.24 km elevated road from Saket to Anand Nagar, valued at Rs 1,874 crore. Upon completion of both projects, travelers from Nashik, Nagpur, and Shirdi will enjoy faster, uninterrupted access to Mumbai.

The Samruddhi Expressway, spanning Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Nashik, and Thane, has already cut travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to approximately eight hours. With the addition of this elevated link, the highway will directly integrate into Mumbai’s core road network, enhancing connectivity and marking a major milestone in Maharashtra’s transport infrastructure.
