Noida Vs Navi Mumbai International Airport: India’s Next-Gen Aviation Hubs Compared

October 15, 2025: Noida International Airport (NIA) in Uttar Pradesh and Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in Maharashtra are among India’s most anticipated greenfield airports, set to decongest Delhi’s IGI and Mumbai’s CSMIA while boosting connectivity, trade, and regional growth.

Location & Connectivity
Noida International Airport, located in Jewar about 60 km from Noida, will ease pressure on Delhi’s airport. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is building 36 km of service lanes along both sides of the expressway to improve access and reduce congestion. Navi Mumbai International Airport, situated in Ulwe about 37 km from South Mumbai, will serve as a secondary hub to CSMIA, enhancing connectivity across western India.

Infrastructure & Capacity
NIA’s first phase includes one integrated terminal and a 3,400 m runway, with an annual capacity of 12 million passengers—scalable to over 100 million in later phases. NMIA’s Phase I features a single terminal and runway designed to handle 20 million passengers, with expansion plans to accommodate up to 90 million annually.

Sustainability
NIA targets net-zero emissions using LC3 low-carbon cement, solar energy, and rainwater harvesting. NMIA focuses on green operations with 47 MW solar power, EV-based ground transport, and advanced water recycling systems.

Cost & Technology
NIA’s total project cost stands at Rs 29,561 crore, with the first phase costing Rs 10,056 crore. NMIA’s first phase, India’s largest greenfield airport project, is being developed at Rs 19,650 crore. Both airports are equipped with advanced technologies. NIA offers touchless DigiYatra processing and a VIP terminal, while NMIA incorporates facial recognition, biometric e-gates, and smart baggage handling to provide a seamless travel experience.
