BMC’s Rs 2,395 Crore Versova–Madh Bridge Gets Green Nod, To Cut Travel Time To Under 10 Minutes

October 17, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s ambitious Rs 2,395 crore Versova–Madh sea bridge project has received in-principle approval from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), marking a major milestone in Mumbai’s western connectivity plan. The announcement was made by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and Mumbai (North) MP Piyush Goyal on Wednesday.

The proposed cable-stayed bridge will provide a direct link between Versova and Madh, drastically reducing the current travel time from nearly an hour to less than 10 minutes. At present, residents must take a long detour through Link Road, S.V. Road, or the Western Express Highway, leading to heavy congestion and extended commute times.

The environmental clearance was a crucial step, as the bridge alignment passes through significant mangrove patches. With the approval now in place, the project can move toward the next phase of execution, which includes finalizing tendering and construction timelines.

The Versova–Madh bridge is expected to ease traffic load across Mumbai’s western suburbs, offering seamless access to areas like Malad, Kandivali, and Borivali, while also benefiting daily commuters and boosting local connectivity.

Once completed, the bridge will not only save substantial travel time but also enhance the city’s infrastructure resilience and support planned urban development along Mumbai’s coastal stretch.
