MRVC Commissions New South Foot Over Bridge At Bhandup Station To Ease Passenger Congestion

October 30, 2025: The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has commissioned a new six-metre-wide South Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Bhandup Station to improve east-west connectivity and ease passenger congestion during peak hours. The bridge, located at the southern end of the station, near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), connects all platforms — 1, 2/3, and 4 — to the eastern side of the station.

Spanning 66 metres in length and 6 metres in width, the new structure includes staircases between 2.5 and 3 metres wide on each platform and the eastern exit. Built at a cost of approximately ₹6 crore, the project forms part of MRVC’s larger mission to modernise Mumbai’s suburban railway network under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).

According to MRVC officials, the new bridge has been designed with a focus on accessibility, safety, and future integration with ongoing upgrades at the station. “The new FOB at Bhandup Station is an important step toward improving passenger convenience and ensuring smooth, safe, and decongested movement, especially during rush hours. Once integrated with the upcoming elevated deck and skywalk, the facility will significantly enhance station accessibility,” said an MRVC spokesperson.

The newly opened FOB will integrate with a 9.5-metre-wide elevated deck currently being built on Platform No. 1 and a proposed five-metre-wide skywalk on the eastern side. Once completed, this interconnected system will link all existing foot overbridges within the station to the BMC skywalk at the Kalyan end, creating a continuous elevated pedestrian corridor. The project reinforces MRVC’s commitment to providing commuters with safer, faster, and more efficient travel across Mumbai’s suburban rail network.
