October 31, 2025: In a major reform push, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has adopted a series of technology-driven measures to accelerate long-delayed redevelopment projects and move closer to its goal of a slum-free Mumbai. Led by CEO Dr. Mahendra Kalyankar, the SRA’s new initiatives aim to boost transparency, reduce approval delays, and rebuild trust among developers and citizens.
During a recent interaction with industry bodies including CREDAI-MCHI, NAREDCO, BDA, and PEATA, Dr. Kalyankar showcased the SRA’s new digital ecosystem, inviting stakeholders to visit the SRA office and experience its reforms first-hand. “What began as a request from developers for Ease of Doing Business turned into a session of shared optimism,” he said.
The reforms include a STQC-certified multilingual website, blockchain-based file approval systems, auto-DCR tools, real-time mapping, and chatbots to improve efficiency and accuracy. A key milestone is the automation of Annexure-2, which now instantly generates slum dweller eligibility lists using Aadhar, electoral, PAN, and electricity data — a process that earlier took months.
Dr. Kalyankar has also set a target to digitally map every slum structure in Mumbai by the end of this year, creating a live database to guide future planning.
Industry leaders welcomed the transformation. Sukhraj Nahar, President of CREDAI-MCHI, said, “The integration of technology and the proactive mindset of the Authority has created the right environment for private players to consider these projects.” Rajan Bandelkar, Vice Chairman of NAREDCO, added, “The reforms are restoring developers’ faith in the system. We are witnessing a governance model that’s accountable and ready to deliver on its promise of a slum-free Mumbai.”
With SRA 2.0, Mumbai’s redevelopment drive enters a new era of digital governance, accountability, and inclusive urban renewal.
