November 03, 2025: The past week underscored India’s accelerating infrastructure momentum, led by major developments in urban transit, aviation, and maritime sectors.
In Mumbai, one of the country’s most ambitious urban transport projects — the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line (Line 3) — became operational in October. The 33.5-km fully underground corridor connects Cuffe Parade to Aarey, marking a milestone in the city’s public transit transformation. Maharashtra has emerged as a leader in metro development, with expansive projects underway across Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Thane.
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha Metro), which oversees metro projects in Pune, Nagpur, and Thane, recently awarded Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd a contract for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of critical systems for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)–Nigdi Elevated Extension of the Pune Metro. The move highlights Maharashtra’s position as a key growth hub for metro and rail engineering firms.
On the aviation front, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman announced that India will develop 34 mega airports by 2047 as part of a long-term plan to strengthen aviation infrastructure and connectivity across the country.
Meanwhile, in the maritime sector, the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) confirmed funding of ₹20,000 crore for the Vadhvan Port project, reinforcing India’s focus on port-led development.
In defence, engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) expects the award of India’s fifth-generation fighter jet programme — the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project — by early 2027, marking a crucial step in indigenous aerospace capability.
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson also reaffirmed the airline’s turnaround progress, noting that the company’s restructuring remains on track despite challenges from global disruptions and elevated operating costs.
