November 03, 2025: The recently inaugurated Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, has recorded impressive ridership numbers in its first full month of operation, signalling growing commuter trust in the city’s underground metro network.
According to official data, the Aqua Line carried 38,63,741 passengers between October 1 and 31, reflecting consistent daily traffic between South Mumbai and the suburbs. From October 9 to 31, the line recorded 33,33,684 passengers, showing a significant uptick after its initial launch phase.
The average weekday ridership stood at 1,41,024 passengers, while the highest single-day ridership touched 1,82,461, marking a new benchmark for the city’s first fully underground metro corridor.
Spanning 33.5 km with 27 stations, Mumbai Metro Line 3 connects key business hubs, residential zones, and transit points such as Colaba, Bandra, and SEEPZ. Designed to relieve pressure on Mumbai’s road and rail networks, the Aqua Line offers faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly connectivity across the city.
Officials attribute the steady increase in ridership to the metro’s seamless travel experience, reduced commute time, and improved comfort. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has also introduced a WhatsApp-based ticketing system to simplify access. Commuters can send “Hi” to +91 98730 16836 or scan a QR code at stations to receive QR-based tickets through a chat interface.
With its growing adoption, the Aqua Line is fast becoming a preferred choice for daily commuters, strengthening Mumbai’s integrated transport network and helping ease congestion across major city corridors.
