November 04, 2025: In a coordinated demolition drive, the Collector Office, with support from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), cleared 135 unauthorised slum structures built on government-owned land in Malvani, Malad West. The large-scale operation, aimed at reclaiming encroached public land, was carried out across two major sites — Ali Talao and Chikuwadi.
According to civic officials, 127 illegal slum units were demolished at Ali Talao, while 8 structures, including 6 slum dwellings and 2 additional unauthorised constructions, were brought down at Chikuwadi. The initiative forms part of an ongoing effort by local authorities to remove encroachments and prevent illegal occupation of government property.
Officials said that heavy machinery and demolition teams from the BMC were deployed to execute the operation smoothly. The drive was conducted under police protection to maintain order and ensure the safety of personnel on site.
A senior civic official confirmed that the BMC plans to continue similar demolition actions across the area to curb the spread of unauthorised construction. “These efforts are essential to protect government land and prevent further encroachments,” the official said.
The joint operation underscores the city administration’s renewed focus on tackling illegal structures in high-density zones like Malvani, where rapid and unregulated construction has been a persistent issue. Officials have also warned that strict legal action will follow against those found guilty of repeated encroachments.
The BMC and the Collector Office are expected to continue coordinated action across Mumbai’s suburbs to reclaim public land and ensure planned urban development.
