November 05, 2025: At a session hosted by the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMC) on ‘Mumbai Metro: Transforming Connectivity and Commuting’, Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), underscored the vital importance of last-mile connectivity in Mumbai’s evolving transport network.
“Mumbai is the economic powerhouse of Maharashtra, and over 95 per cent of the population in this region is urbanised. With nearly one trillion dollars expected to come from the Mumbai MMR alone, continued investment in large-scale infrastructure like the Mumbai Metro Rail is essential,” said Ms. Bhide, highlighting the Metro’s role in sustaining the city’s economic dynamism.
During the discussion, IMC announced its collaboration with Project Mumbai for its flagship initiative, Mumbai Climate Week (MCW), scheduled from 17–19 February 2026. The event, to be hosted by Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, aims to position India as a leading voice for climate action in the Global South.
Shishir Joshi, Founder and CEO of Project Mumbai, remarked, “Mumbai Climate Week marks a historic step for Maharashtra and India as we unite and amplify the voices of the Global South.”
IMC President Sunita Ramnathkar added, “The Mumbai Metro is not just transforming how we commute—it is shaping the city’s economic and environmental future. Our association with Mumbai Climate Week underscores our commitment to advancing climate action and sustainable growth.”
The session reinforced how transformative infrastructure like the Mumbai Metro is central not only to easing urban mobility but also to aligning the city’s development with broader sustainability goals.
