CM Fadnavis Orders Fast-Tracking Of Mumbai’s Key Infrastructure Projects Amid Delays

November 05, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials and contractors to accelerate work on several of Mumbai’s major infrastructure projects, expressing concern over their sluggish progress. Chairing a high-level review meeting, Fadnavis emphasised the timely completion of the Thane–Borivali twin tunnel, Uttan–Virar Sea Link, and Orange Gate–Marine Drive urban tunnel, calling them crucial for easing congestion and improving regional connectivity.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Airoli–Katai Naka Freeway will significantly reduce travel time to just 20 minutes and instructed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to immediately release funds for land acquisition. He also reviewed the 23.8 km Vadpe–Thane road project, developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), noting that 19 km of the stretch is already complete and the entire link—vital for access to the Samruddhi Mahamarg—is expected to be ready by March 2026.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the Bandra–Versova Sea Link’s pace, Fadnavis ordered the contractor to use advanced construction technologies to speed up completion. He further directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to expedite land acquisition and housing construction for displaced residents of the Magathane–Goregaon DP Road project, encouraging the use of innovative building methods.

The Chief Minister also instructed that the Film City–Goregaon to Khindipada–Mulund double tunnel project be fast-tracked to enhance connectivity from the western suburbs to the Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Fadnavis noted that the Centre has approved saline land use for the Versova–Dahisar–Bhayandar Coastal Road, which must be completed in phases by December 30, 2028. Concluding the review, he urged all departments to “work round the clock” to ensure that critical infrastructure projects—including the Sewri–Worli link road—are completed within the stipulated timelines.
