November 06, 2025: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced a major infrastructure push with a USD 210 million elevated road project aimed at improving connectivity between Anand Nagar and Saket Road. The six-lane elevated corridor — with three lanes in each direction — will form part of a broader plan to strengthen the transport network in the Mumbai-Thane region.
Alongside this, the Ghodbunder Road widening project in Thane, valued at USD 60 million, will expand the arterial route to seven lanes on each side, using durable concrete construction for long-term resilience.
Both initiatives are key components of MMRDA’s larger USD 620 million infrastructure development programme for Thane, located immediately north of Mumbai. The programme includes multiple road upgrades and the introduction of advanced traffic management systems designed to reduce congestion and improve commuter safety.
Officials said the projects are essential to address the challenges posed by Thane’s rapidly growing population and surging vehicle numbers, which have strained the region’s existing road network.
The combined developments are expected to enhance mobility, reduce travel times, and support the area’s continued urban expansion — reinforcing Thane’s role as a major extension of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
