Mumbai To Get Twin Mangrove Parks In Gorai And Dahisar; Gorai Project To Open On November 15

November 10, 2025: Mumbai will soon have two dedicated mangrove parks — one each in Gorai and Dahisar — aimed at promoting eco-tourism, conservation, and education. The lush mangrove stretches in these areas, which have largely remained untouched, will now be developed into public parks. The Gorai park is expected to open on November 15, while construction at Dahisar is still underway.

According to sources, the Mangrove Cell is overseeing the development of the parks, while the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is creating an integrated tourism hub in Gorai. The hub will feature a Vintage Car Museum, a Wax Museum, and a Historical Event Museum. Both projects are being directly monitored by Union Minister and Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal, who recently reviewed their progress in Borivali.

The Gorai mangrove park, located near the jetty, is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹30 crore. “There will be an 800-m-long elevated, wooden, eco-sensitive boardwalks meandering through the mangroves for tourists. Currently, the project is in its final stages of execution, with infrastructure and interpretive components nearing completion,” said sources present at the review meeting. The park will also feature an interpretation centre with models, digital displays, and signage on mangrove conservation, biodiversity, and coastal protection. Officials stated that no mangroves have been cut for the project.

At Dahisar, about 0.93 hectares of a 30-hectare mangrove plot will be open to the public. The ₹80 crore project includes a 400-m trail, observatory, crab pond, floating jetty, and kayak trails connecting Dahisar and Gorai. “We intend to develop an Aquarium, Tent City, Luxury Hotel, Adventure Centre, etc., apart from the museums at the tourism hub in Gorai through a public-private participation model,” said sources.

MTDC holds 128 acres in Gorai for the tourism hub, with compound wall construction nearing completion.
