MMRDA Installs Key 52 Metre Steel Span On Andheri-JVLR Missing Link, Marking Major Breakthrough

November 19, 2025: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has completed a significant construction milestone on the Andheri–JVLR Missing Link project with the installation of a 52-metre steel span at the high-traffic Infinity Mall junction in Andheri West. Executed within an extremely constrained transit zone between Metro Lines 2A and 6, the launch represents a vital step toward improving east–west traffic flow and easing chronic congestion in Andheri and along the JVLR corridor, officials said.

The newly installed span consists of 12 steel composite girders, each weighing 46.5 MT, amounting to a total weight of 558 MT. Engineers faced one of Mumbai’s most complex construction environments, with the under-construction Metro Line 6 positioned above the alignment and the operational Metro Line 2A running mid-level. The limited working space demanded high-precision engineering and intense coordination to ensure the span could be launched safely without disrupting metro operations or pedestrian and vehicular movement.

MMRDA officials noted that the operation required continuous teamwork among multiple technical units to maintain both structural stability and public safety. The span will serve as an essential connector between the Andheri–JVLR Missing Link and portions of the double-decker metro system being developed along the corridor.

The project aims to transform east–west connectivity by linking Andheri West’s Link Road to Poonam Nagar on the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR). Currently, commuters rely on the clogged SV Road junction and the Western Express Highway, both of which experience severe bottlenecks during peak hours.

Once the corridor opens, vehicles traveling from Swami Samarth Nagar will be able to bypass these choke points entirely and reach Poonam Nagar in under 20 minutes. Officials state that the project will help cut travel time, reduce fuel consumption, and lower emissions.

Reaffirming its focus on improved mobility, MMRDA said, “We are building the Mumbai of tomorrow, one breakthrough at a time.”
