Navi Mumbai International Airport Set To Begin Commercial Operations On December 25

November 21, 2025: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will officially begin commercial operations on 25 December, marking a major expansion of air connectivity for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The airport will start with 23 scheduled daily departures and will operate from 8 am to 8 pm during its first month, enabling up to 10 aircraft movements per hour.

Developed by Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (NMIAL)—a joint venture between the Adani Group and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd. (CIDCO)—the facility becomes the region’s second major airport. It was inaugurated on 8 October.

In its opening phase, NMIA will handle around 120 daily air traffic movements. By February 2026, the airport will transition to round-the-clock operations, increasing the number of planned daily departures to 34.

The first arrival will be IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru, scheduled to land at 8:00 am. The first departure will follow shortly after, with IndiGo flight 6E882 taking off for Hyderabad at 8:40 am.

For its launch month, operations will feature three carriers—IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air—offering direct flights from Mumbai to 16 major domestic destinations.

The airport’s first phase has been completed for Rs 196.5 billion. Spread across 1,160 hectares, the development includes a single terminal and a runway designed to handle up to 20 million passengers annually. Designed as a modern and high-capacity hub, NMIA is expected to significantly ease congestion at the existing Mumbai airport while supporting the region’s growing aviation demand.
