Thane Motorists To Get Relief With Rs 1,847-Crore Anand Nagar-Saket Elevated Corridor

November 24, 2025: Thane commuters may soon see a major traffic reprieve as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans an 8.24-km elevated corridor from Anand Nagar along the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) to Saket, according to the Indian Express. The corridor will start near Chheda Nagar, pass through congested Thane junctions, and terminate at Saket in Thane West.

The six-lane corridor—three lanes in each direction—is estimated to cost Rs 1,847.72 crore and is expected to be completed by 2028. It aims to tackle heavy traffic at key junctions, including Teen Hath Naka, Nitin Junction, Cadbury Junction, and Golden Dyes Junction in Majiwada. Despite existing six-lane flyovers, traffic remains slow due to slip roads and service roads merging with the highway. The elevated corridor will rise above these intersections, providing a signal-free drive and reducing commute times for both local and through-traffic from Mumbai and Nashik heading toward the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway.

Thane is also witnessing several other infrastructure upgrades. A four-lane railway flyover at Retibandar Motagaon will link to the Mankoli flyover in Dombivli, enabling travel from Thane to Dombivli in 25 minutes. The Thane-NMIA double-decker corridor, spanning 26 km with a 9-km connector to the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), is approved, with construction pending.

Other projects include Mumbai Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavli via Ghodbunder Road), nearing completion and reducing commute times by up to 75%, the 13.44-km Balkum-Gaimukh Coastal Road, and the 12-km Thane-Borivali Tunnel beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park. A dual-connectivity project linking Gaimukh to Mira-Bhayander with a 5.5-km tunnel and 9.8-km elevated road is also underway.

Additionally, FoBs and service lanes beneath Metro 4 stations are being converted into passenger bays, and a 52-km pod taxi project with 63 stations is planned to complement the metro network. Recreational facilities such as NaMo Grand Central Park near Kolshet Road will enhance the surrounding urban environment.

This comprehensive infrastructure push is poised to significantly ease Thane’s traffic woes while improving east-west connectivity and commuter convenience across the region.
