Mumbai’s Key Infrastructure Projects Set For Completion By 2032, Says CM Fadnavis

November 25, 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has outlined an ambitious timeline for Mumbai’s infrastructure overhaul, stating that the city will witness transformative changes over the next five to seven years. Speaking at a town hall event held at the NSCI Dome in Worli on Monday (25 November), he highlighted that major works aimed at strengthening east-west and north-south connectivity are progressing at speed. According to The Times of India, Fadnavis said, “All major infrastructure projects currently underway in the city will be completed by 2032 and will decongest Mumbai.”

He pointed to several key developments, including the extension of the sea link to Versova–Dahisar–Bhayander, a new link road from Dahisar, free-flow bridges, and multiple tunnel projects that will collectively ease traffic pressure. Currently, nearly 60 per cent of the city’s traffic load is carried by the Western Express Highway. Fadnavis noted that new tunnels—such as those connecting BKC to surrounding areas—and a planned elevated link road network over the expressway will drastically improve average travel speeds. He emphasised that Mumbai is moving towards becoming “completely tunnelled.”

Providing an update on public transportation, the Chief Minister reaffirmed that the entire Metro network is expected to be completed within the next five years. He also shared that the Dharavi redevelopment project will keep 30 per cent of the area as green space, preserving crucial environmental balance.

On sustainability, Fadnavis warned that “…Public transport is one of the biggest causes of pollution. So, efforts are underway to electrify the transport system in Mumbai.” He added that the city’s mobility network will shift toward zero emissions in the coming phase.

He further stated that Mumbai’s upgraded sewage treatment plants will ensure that only fully treated water reaches the sea, with the project likely to be completed by next year.
