November 26, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated a significant revamp of multiple parks and playgrounds across the city, issuing tenders collectively valued at Rs 26 crore. The civic body aims to modernise and restore several key public spaces, enhancing recreational infrastructure for residents in both the island city and suburbs.
Among the major projects, the Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Playground in Malad (East) is slated for comprehensive repair work estimated at Rs 4.22 crore. The BMC has set an 11-month completion timeline for this upgrade, which will include improvements to sporting facilities, landscaping, and user amenities. Similarly, the Sahitya Samrat Annabhau Sathe Udyan in Akurli Village, Kandivali (East), will undergo an upgradation project costing Rs 14.78 crore, also expected to be completed within 11 months. Officials said the simultaneous timelines will help streamline procurement and supervision across projects.
In Matunga, the renovation of Maheshwari Udyan has been planned at a projected cost of Rs 3.99 crore, with an identical 11-month deadline. This historic garden is set to receive structural repairs, upgraded pathways, improved lighting, and enhanced green cover aimed at creating a more accessible and family-friendly environment.
The civic body has also lined up high-quality development work for Dadasaheb Phalke Udyan and Nare Park Ground in Parel. While specific budget allocations for these two projects were not detailed in the tender summary, officials confirmed that the works will focus on revitalising ageing infrastructure, improving safety, and expanding recreational features to better serve the local communities.
With this upgrade initiative, the BMC aims to strengthen neighbourhood-level open spaces across Mumbai, ensuring that parks and playgrounds keep pace with the city’s growing population and evolving urban needs. The tender process marks another step in the corporation’s broader strategy to prioritise green spaces and enhance the overall quality of life for citizens.
