November 28, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has launched an extensive road-cleaning operation aimed at reducing dust levels and improving overall air quality across major routes and MIDC industrial zones. The initiative follows direct instructions from Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde, who asked all departments to take concrete and immediate action to curb rising pollution. The drive commenced without delay and is being executed with a strong emphasis on efficiency.
Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar is overseeing the initiative, which involves coordinated efforts from all eight departments. The operations are being supervised by City Engineer Shirish Aardwad and Solid Waste Management Deputy Commissioner Ajay Gade. Major stretches such as Thane Belapur Marg, Amra Marg, and other high-traffic roads within the MIDC belt have been prioritised for comprehensive cleaning. Teams are clearing accumulated soil and debris using wire brush brooms and flipper machines before transporting the waste for proper disposal.
After debris removal, the roads are washed using mechanical washing vehicles and sprinkler systems. Jet spray units and NCAP dust-suppressor foggers are being deployed to spray water into the air, helping settle suspended dust particles. Importantly, the civic body is using purified and treated sewage water from advanced sewage treatment plants to conduct these cleaning operations, ensuring environmental sustainability.
On the first day of the campaign, key routes such as South Central Road in Turbhe, South Feeder Road in Ghansoli, and the Mahape-Koparkhairane stretch were cleaned thoroughly. With winter contributing to rising smog and dust levels, the municipal administration is closely monitoring the progress of the initiative.
To strengthen enforcement, vigilance teams comprising engineers, sanitation officers, and inspectors have been mobilised at the departmental level. These teams are ensuring dust control compliance at construction sites, quarries, and cement RMC plants. The Municipal Corporation has stressed that this intensive cleaning campaign will continue regularly, with strict sector-wise monitoring to safeguard public health and maintain cleaner air across Navi Mumbai.
