Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project On Track For August 2027 Launch: Major Civil Works Completed

December 10, 2025: The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, India’s first bullet train corridor, has achieved major construction milestones as it moves toward its inaugural run in August 2027. According to the Ministry of Railways, 330 kilometres of viaduct work have been completed along the 508-km route, while pier construction now spans 406 kilometres.

The project has also finished 17 river bridges and 11 steel bridges across key crossings, marking steady progress in core civil infrastructure. In the electrification segment, approximately 3,500 Overhead Equipment (OHE) masts have been installed, and 250 kilometres of reinforced concrete track bed have been laid. To manage sound and ensure commuter safety, about 4.5 lakh noise barriers have been installed along the alignment.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently announced that the country’s first bullet train will debut its 100-km operational run between Surat and Vapi in August 2027. The full 508-km corridor, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad, is targeted for completion by December 2029.

Vaishnaw said, “A significant milestone is that the bullet train will cover the distance between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in just 1 hour 58 minutes upon the completion of the high-speed rail corridor. The inaugural run in August 2027 will cover 100 km between Surat and Vapi.”

Once operational, the bullet train will travel at speeds of up to 320 kmph. The journey between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will take 1 hour 58 minutes with four stops, and 2 hours 17 minutes if it halts at all 12 stations.

The MAHSR corridor, being implemented by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), represents a transformative step in India’s transport infrastructure, promising faster, cleaner, and more efficient intercity travel.
