December 11, 2025: The long-delayed Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) in Kalyan has finally gained momentum as the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) began demolishing a major obstruction — part of the decades-old Optic Building situated near the railway station. The ground-plus-two structure, known for its line of eyewear and optical shops, had stalled construction of Flyover A, the largest of the three SATIS flyovers, for several months. KDMC has permitted the remaining portion of the building to undergo repairs so that businesses can function, while residents will be compensated through Transferable Development Rights (TDR).
With demolition underway, KDMC is set to push ahead with the construction of Flyover A’s landing at Subhash Chowk. The civic body expects the flyover to open for public use by the end of February 2026, promising significant relief from severe traffic congestion around Kalyan station. The SATIS project, launched in January 2021 at an initial cost of ₹498 crore, has seen its budget rise to ₹602 crore due to prolonged legal disputes with property owners and hotel operators.
As part of the broader plan, KDMC leased 491 sq. m of railway land for 35 years and widened key stretches from Tal Bar to Brakesman Chawl to support construction. Flyover A spans 1,600 metres from Subhash Chowk to Bail Bazaar, of which 1,250 metres are already complete. Smart Kalyan-Dombivli Development Corporation Limited aims to finish the remaining work by mid-February 2026 so the flyover can be opened by month-end. KDMC Commissioner Abhinav Goel noted that the Optic Building’s removal has cleared the biggest barrier, with traffic diversions expected shortly.
Construction of Flyovers C and D is also nearing completion. Flyover C, 206 metres long, has 181 metres finished, while Flyover D, measuring 297 metres, has 260 metres completed. All three flyovers will function as an interconnected network. KDMC plans to open C and D by March 2026, along with the ST depot’s new administration building and workshop.
With major impediments resolved — including a gas-godown issue affecting Flyover C — KDMC is preparing for 24/7 construction on Flyover A. Once operational, buses from the station will directly access the ST depot through the flyovers, while auto-rickshaw users will use the road beneath, boarding from designated stands. The breakthrough marks a turning point for the SATIS project, which is now firmly on track to reshape connectivity around Kalyan station.
