BMC Unveils International-Standard Exotic Bird Park In Mulund, Focus On Tourism And Green Development

December 15, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday held the groundbreaking ceremony for a state-of-the-art, international-standard ‘Exotic Bird Park’ at Mulund (West), signalling a major push to enhance tourism, biodiversity, and the quality of life in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs. The ceremony took place at Nahur, behind Raj Industrial Estate on D.P. Road, Salpadevi Pada, and was attended by senior political leaders and civic officials.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who addressed the gathering via video conferencing, said the proposed bird park should evolve into a key attraction for tourists visiting Mumbai. Terming the project eco-friendly and nature-oriented, he noted that such initiatives would help improve citizens’ well-being while adding to the city’s appeal. “It is a matter of joy that this project is being developed to bring people closer to nature,” the Chief Minister said, while wishing the project a timely completion.

The day also marked the inauguration of the newly constructed building of the BMC-run Mansadevi Tulsiram Agarwal General Hospital at Mulund (West), strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the area.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, speaking online, said development works in Mulund were being executed in a planned manner to raise residents’ standard of living. He highlighted that projects such as the new hospital building, the Exotic Bird Park, and a proposed court complex would significantly improve civic amenities, adding that the feasibility of a golf park on the dumping ground would also be examined.

Information Technology and Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar said the bird park would complement the nearby Sanjay Gandhi National Park, creating an ecological and tourism corridor in Mulund. He noted that the park would feature birds from across the world, with specialised habitats and food arrangements to attract visitors.

Local MLA Mihir Kotecha outlined ongoing and planned civic works, including cement concrete roads, new gardens, a petrol pump, metro connectivity, and tourism-oriented infrastructure.

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, senior civic officials, and other dignitaries were present. A video presentation on the proposed bird park and the newly completed hospital building was screened at the event.
