December 15, 2025: Residents of Simplex Society in Sector 7, Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai, have taken a strong stand against what they describe as bullying, pressure, and fraudulent practices being carried out in the name of redevelopment. While the buildings in the society have officially been declared dangerous, residents allege that the redevelopment process has been marred by injustice and lack of accountability.
Simplex Society is home to nearly 800 families, many of whom are currently facing severe hardship. Residents claim that rental compensation promised during the redevelopment process has not been paid for the last eight to nine months. They further allege that some homes have been forcibly vacated, leaving families struggling to manage housing and daily expenses without adequate support.
Multiple expert agencies have reportedly confirmed the unsafe condition of the buildings. Structural assessments conducted by IIT Kharagpur and VJTI Mumbai have stated that the structures are unfit for habitation. In addition, the Public Works Department, the Konkan Commissioner, and the city engineer have also acknowledged that the buildings pose serious safety risks.
Despite these findings, residents allege that the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has failed to take decisive and transparent action to safeguard their interests. They claim that delays and inaction have compounded their difficulties, especially for families already displaced or living under financial strain.
Residents have emphasised that their opposition is not to redevelopment itself, but to what they term as unjust and coercive redevelopment practices. They have called for a fair, lawful and humane approach that ensures timely rent payments, proper rehabilitation, and protection from intimidation.
The residents are now demanding greater intervention from civic authorities to ensure accountability and a transparent redevelopment process. They are urging the administration to address their grievances, enforce regulations, and ensure that redevelopment proceeds in a manner that prioritises safety, dignity and the rights of all affected families.
