December 15, 2025: The Mumbai Metro Line 12 (Kalyan-Taloja) project marked a significant milestone with the installation of its 100th U-girder near Dombivli MIDC Metro Station on Shilphata Road, News18 Lokmat reported. The 23.57-km fully elevated orange line will connect Kalyan, Dombivli, and Taloja, eventually providing direct access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The line is scheduled for completion by May 2028.
Metro-12 will feature 19 stations from APMC Kalyan to Amandoot (Taloja), including key stops such as Kalyan, Ganesh Nagar, Dombivli MIDC, Hedutane (future interchange with Line 14), Kolegaon, Nilaje Gaon, and Amandoot (interchange with Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1). The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said construction is ongoing at multiple sites along the route. The line was initially planned to end at Taloja but has been extended roughly four kilometers to Pendhar to connect with the Pendhar station of Navi Mumbai Metro.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 5,865 crore. Upon completion, travel between Kalyan and Taloja, currently taking 1–1.5 hours by road, will be reduced to about 45 minutes. Metro-12 will improve connectivity across Kalyan, Dombivli, Navi Mumbai, and Thane, easing traffic congestion, reducing reliance on buses, and supporting regional growth, infrastructure investment, and improved living standards.
Metro-12 will integrate with approximately 13 metro lines, including Line 5 at APMC Kalyan, Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 at Amandoot, and the future Line 14 at Hedutane. Interchanges will feature elevated concourse platforms for seamless transfers. It will also connect with suburban rail, local bus services, and eventually provide a route toward NMIA.
While direct travel from Kalyan to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is not immediate, passengers can use a combination of Metro lines 5, 4, and 3, or Metro 1 and 7/7A, to reach the airport efficiently. Metro-12 is expected to transform commuting in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, facilitating faster, safer, and more reliable transit for officegoers and industrial workers.
