December 16, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its cleanliness initiatives by combining mechanised road deep-cleaning with extensive public awareness campaigns to improve waste management and reduce environmental pollution. These efforts aim to tackle rising dust levels while promoting responsible civic behaviour among residents.
Over the past 20 days, civic teams have systematically cleaned major arterial roads, internal link roads, and industrial corridors, including MIDC areas. The operations involved using mechanical brushes to remove accumulated dust and soil, followed by washing road surfaces with treated water to limit airborne particulate matter. Notable activities included deep-cleaning along the Sector 8 L Market to Manak Hospital stretch in Nerul, sectors 11 to 15 nearby, Turbhe’s Sector 10 near Sanpada D-Mart, and Belapur Sector 15, where heavy daily traffic increases dust accumulation.
In addition to infrastructure-focused measures, community-driven initiatives were organised to encourage public participation. In Airoli, a special creekside cleanliness drive between sectors 10 and 14 saw participation from NSS students of Sushiladevi Deshmukh College. The drive began with a cleanliness pledge near the Mumbai Katai bridge and resulted in 28 bags of waste being collected and transported to the solid waste processing facility.
Public awareness efforts extended to large gatherings, including a religious event in Juinagar, where sanitation officers educated attendees on waste segregation, the environmental impact of plastic use, and the importance of avoiding single-use plastics. In Airoli Sector 14, student volunteers from Pravin Gandhi College of Law conducted door-to-door campaigns in residential societies, focusing on waste segregation and the use of wet waste-to-compost vehicles, with certificates awarded to volunteers for their contribution.
The civic body confirmed that these initiatives are being implemented under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with oversight from Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and the solid waste management department, ensuring simultaneous progress in cleanliness enforcement and citizen engagement across Navi Mumbai.
