Massive Infra Push In MMR: Ambarnath, Badlapur To Get New Metro And Rail Links

December 19, 2025: Infrastructure projects worth nearly Rs 2 lakh crore are currently in progress across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), with Ambarnath and Badlapur in Thane district set to emerge as key beneficiaries, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday. The large-scale initiative includes new metro corridors, railway line expansions, and upgrades to suburban transport networks, aimed at easing congestion and accelerating regional growth.

Speaking at a public meeting in Ambarnath while campaigning for the Ambarnath Municipal Council elections, Fadnavis announced that work on the much-awaited Metro Line 14, connecting Kanjurmarg to Badlapur, will begin within the next four months. He said Metro Lines 5, 12, and 14 would significantly improve connectivity for Ambarnath and Badlapur, making daily commuting easier and driving development in the region.

“I want to develop the entire Mumbai metropolitan area, and I have specific dreams for Ambarnath city as well,” the chief minister said, urging voters to support BJP candidates to help realise this vision. Describing Ambarnath as the “gateway to Mumbai”, Fadnavis clarified that his visit was intended to outline the BJP’s development agenda and not to attack political rivals.

Highlighting parallel investments in railway infrastructure, the chief minister stated that the completion of the third and fourth railway lines between Kalyan and Badlapur would enable suburban local trains to run every 10 minutes, substantially improving services. He also revealed that the state government has sought 238 new rakes to convert all regular local trains into air-conditioned services.

“Soon, all local trains will be air-conditioned without any fare hike,” he assured.

Referring to civic leadership, Fadnavis said the BJP had fielded a young and educated candidate for the post of president of the Ambarnath Municipal Council. “She is a chartered accountant who will keep transparent accounts and ensure accountability,” he said, adding that the aspirations of BJP candidates were aligned with his own development goals.

BJP state president Ravindra Chavan, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik and several senior party leaders were present at the event.
