December 29, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has served a notice to CIDCO over non-compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) at mass housing project construction sites within the city limits. This move is part of the civic body’s ongoing initiative to improve air quality in Navi Mumbai by enforcing strict monitoring of construction-related pollution.
Under the guidance of the municipal commissioner, a detailed SOP has been notified to manage air pollution, noise pollution, and blasting activities at construction sites. Earlier, the NMMC had issued a circular outlining penal measures for violations, and the High Court recently directed mandatory preventive measures to be implemented at all construction projects.
Following these directives, a special meeting was convened with developers and architects to ensure strict adherence to SOPs. However, during a recent inspection of the Turbhe division, officials found violations at a CIDCO mass housing site near Juinagar railway station in Sector 11, Sanpada, as well as at another site in Plot No. 1, Sector 19, Vashi.
In response, NMMC has directed CIDCO to immediately implement corrective measures in line with the prescribed SOPs to control air and noise pollution. The corporation has also mandated the submission of a detailed compliance report to its town planning department within seven days.
The notice warns that failure to comply within the stipulated period may invite regulatory action, including suspension of construction work, as per applicable rules. The NMMC emphasized that safeguarding air quality remains a top priority and reiterated that strict action will be taken against any breaches of environmental norms.
This action highlights the civic body’s proactive approach in ensuring sustainable construction practices while balancing urban development with environmental responsibility in Navi Mumbai.
