Palghar Reviews Land Acquisition Progress For Bullet Train And Key Rail Projects

December 29, 2025: Palghar Collector Indu Rani Jakhar convened a high-level review meeting to evaluate the status of land acquisition for several large-scale rail and infrastructure projects underway in the district. The meeting focused on identifying and resolving pending administrative issues to ensure that these critical transport initiatives progress on schedule and deliver improved regional connectivity.

The review covered five major projects that are expected to significantly strengthen Palghar’s role in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s transport network. These included the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, also known as the Bullet Train project being implemented by NHSRCL; the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor; the Virar–Dahanu railway line quadrupling project undertaken by MRVC; the Borivali–Virar fifth and sixth railway lines; and multiple road overbridge (ROB) works.

Senior officials involved in land acquisition, rehabilitation, and records management participated in the meeting. Among those present were Mahesh Sagar, Deputy Collector for Land Acquisition; Tejas Chavan, Deputy Collector for Rehabilitation; Ravindra Rajput, Additional Resident Deputy Collector; and Narendra Patil, District Superintendent of Land Records. Their inputs provided a detailed overview of progress and remaining challenges across projects.

Officials reported that land acquisition for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has been fully completed, with compensation disbursed to 92 per cent of beneficiaries across 71 villages. The Borivali–Virar railway expansion has also achieved full land acquisition. In contrast, the Virar–Dahanu railway project still has a few minor acquisition issues, though these are expected to be resolved in the near term.

Collector Jakhar directed all concerned departments to intensify coordination to quickly address residual matters related to fund utilisation, rehabilitation processes, and administrative approvals. She stressed the importance of balancing timely project execution with fair resolution of local concerns, ensuring that these strategically important infrastructure projects maintain momentum while minimising disruption to affected communities.
