January 13, 2026: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) recorded its highest annual passenger traffic in 2025, handling 55.5 million travellers during the year. Domestic passengers made up the bulk of the total at about 39.2 million, while international traffic stood at nearly 16.3 million. The airport said this represented a growth of 1.3 per cent compared with 2024 and an increase of 7.6 per cent over 2023.
Delhi continued to be the busiest domestic route from Mumbai, accounting for 17 per cent of total domestic passenger traffic. Bengaluru followed with a 10 per cent share, while Goa accounted for around 6 per cent. IndiGo, Air India and Akasa Air were the principal airlines operating domestic services during the year.
On the international side, destinations in the Middle East dominated passenger volumes. Dubai alone contributed 7.5 per cent of total international traffic, matching London’s share. Abu Dhabi and several other global cities also remained important overseas destinations. IndiGo, Air India and Emirates emerged as the leading carriers on international routes.
Passenger movement peaked in January, when close to 5 million travellers passed through the airport. November followed with around 4.9 million passengers and also included the airport’s three busiest single days of the year. Overall, the October to December period proved to be the strongest quarter, recording the highest quarterly passenger traffic in CSMIA’s history.
The airport attributed the growth to expanded connectivity across both domestic and international networks. New international routes were launched to cities such as Almaty, Manchester, Copenhagen and Bali, while domestic connectivity was strengthened with services to Adampur, Porbandar and Solapur. These additions improved access and supported demand across segments.
CSMIA also reported a record number of aircraft movements in 2025, underscoring its operational capacity amid rising traffic. The sustained increase in passengers and flights reinforces the airport’s role as India’s busiest gateway for international travel and a central hub within the country’s aviation network.
