Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 To Get Network Of 23 EV Battery Swapping Stations

January 14, 2026: Battery swapping solutions provider Indofast Energy has announced plans to install 23 battery swapping stations along the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 corridor as part of a partnership with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL). The initiative is aimed at strengthening electric vehicle (EV) adoption by improving last-mile connectivity along one of Mumbai’s most important north–south transit routes.

Under the collaboration, Indofast Energy will deploy swapping stations across eight key stations on the Aqua Line 3 network—Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ, MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. The stations will support electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small commercial vehicles, providing a quick and convenient energy solution for delivery partners, ride-hailing drivers, and daily commuters travelling along the corridor.

The company said the charging and swapping infrastructure is designed to make it easier for users of the Aqua Line 3 route to rely on electric vehicles for their entire journey, particularly for first- and last-mile travel. By integrating EV infrastructure directly with metro stations, the partnership seeks to link mass rapid transit with cleaner and more efficient mobility options.

Describing the collaboration as a major step toward sustainable urban transport, Indofast Energy said the initiative will help create an integrated mobility ecosystem for millions of commuters in Mumbai. “Our collaboration with Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) represents a paradigm shift in urban mobility planning, where we’re integrating battery swapping infrastructure directly with Mumbai’s metro network — the lifeline of the city,” said Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy.

Indofast Energy currently operates 19 battery swapping stations across Mumbai, including its 1,000th station located at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. With the addition of the Aqua Line 3 network, the company’s footprint in the city is set to expand significantly.

Each new station will feature Indofast Energy’s advanced automated battery swapping technology, designed to support multiple vehicle categories using a common battery platform. “This partnership with Indofast Energy is an important step toward building a well-connected transport network for Mumbai. Setting up battery swapping stations at our key metro stations will help more people switch to electric vehicles for their short trips,” said R Ramana, Director (Planning) at MMRCL.
