The Maharashtra government on Monday, January 19, 2026, signed 19 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with investment commitments totalling Rs 14.5 lakh crore, expected to generate over 15 lakh jobs across sectors. The agreements were signed during the first day of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos.
The MoUs span diverse sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, renewable energy, digital services, food processing, and automobiles, highlighting strong global confidence in Maharashtra’s consumer markets and infrastructure readiness.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the Maharashtra pavilion and noted a positive investor response, particularly for the government’s ‘Third Mumbai’ urban development initiative. Throughout the day, Fadnavis held high-level business meetings with global corporations, including Coca-Cola, Antora Energy, and Brookfield, focusing on sectors such as green steel, hospitality, logistics, and digital infrastructure. Industries Minister Uday Samant and senior officials joined him.
Major investment deals finalised on Day One include commitments from Sumitomo Realty and Development ($8 billion, 80,000 jobs), K Raheja Corp ($10 billion, 100,000 jobs), Alta Capital and Panchshil Realty ($25 billion, 250,000 jobs), and IISM Global ($8 billion, 80,000 jobs).
The state also entered into strategic partnerships with global institutions. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will act as a strategic policy partner, while Sembcorp Development Ltd, based in Singapore, will provide expertise for integrated low-carbon industrial parks. The Technical University of Munich will collaborate on sustainable urban transport, and Urban Futures Collective London will develop digital twin ecosystems for Mumbai’s urban sustainability.
In the steel sector, Maharashtra signed an MoU with Surjagad Ispat Ltd to invest Rs 20,000 crore in the tribal Gadchiroli region of Vidarbha, creating 8,000 jobs. An agreement with SBG Group in the logistics sector aims to attract $20 billion in investment and generate 4.5 lakh jobs across Mumbai and the metropolitan region.
Earlier, Chief Minister Fadnavis met Juvencio Maeztu, CEO and President of Ingka Group IKEA Retail, who confirmed plans for significant expansion in Maharashtra, appreciating the state’s support. Fadnavis also held discussions with Jeff Merritt, Head of Urban Transformation at WEF, focusing on sustainable innovation and future urban-industrial development.
The Maharashtra delegation will continue investor engagements over the next four days at Davos, aiming to attract further investments across sectors.
