January 23, 2026: Traffic movement in parts of Thane district and south Mumbai will face changes in the coming months, with police authorities issuing advisories linked to infrastructure works and revised parking arrangements.
In Kalyan East, the Thane city police have announced a prolonged road closure due to pipeline-related work near Khadegolwali in Ulhasnagar. The main road connecting Dharamveer Anand Dighe Chowk to Kolsewadi Police Station will remain shut to vehicular traffic from January 22 until May 21. During this period, motorists will need to follow designated diversion routes.
Heavy and regular vehicles have been advised to use the F Cabin Road. From Dharamveer Anand Dighe Chowk, traffic can move via Ambedkar Chowk, Shriram Chowk and Pune Link Road, which will remain operational in both directions. Commuters travelling towards Vitthalwadi Station Road can take the Ambedkar Chowk route via the Mahindra showroom and Shriram Chowk. For small vehicles, an alternative has been provided through Hanuman Nagar Road to reach Pune Link Road. Police have urged drivers to adhere to the diversions and cooperate to avoid congestion during the construction phase.
Separately, the Mumbai Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic and parking arrangements on Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in Worli. The move follows reduced vehicular flow after the opening of the Dharmaveer Swarajyarakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road. Authorities noted that the stretch between JK Kapoor Circle and Bindu Madhav Junction is wide enough to permit limited parking without affecting traffic movement.
Residents and joggers using the Mumbai Coastal Road promenade had sought parking facilities in the area. After assessment, officials allowed single-lane parking for private vehicles and two-wheelers, while issuing a fresh temporary ‘No Parking’ order to ensure pedestrian safety. Parking will remain prohibited at sensitive locations such as school gates, bus stops, zebra crossings and building entrances.
The temporary order, issued under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, will remain in force from December 26, 2025, until March 25, 2026. Traffic police have appealed to motorists to strictly follow the rules, warning that violations could attract penalties. Authorities said the arrangements may be reviewed based on traffic conditions and public response.
