Mumbai Marathon To Debut Coastal Road Stretch In Landmark 21st Edition

January 23, 2026: The TATA Mumbai Marathon will mark a significant milestone this year as runners take to the newly opened Mumbai Coastal Road for the first time. The 21st edition of the race, scheduled for Sunday, January 18, will integrate the coastal corridor into its course, alongside established landmarks such as the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, offering participants a blend of the city’s historic and modern infrastructure.

The inclusion of the Coastal Road is being positioned as a defining moment in the marathon’s evolution, reflecting Mumbai’s changing urban landscape. Organisers said the revised route has been carefully planned to balance runner experience with the city’s traffic and security requirements.

The Elite Marathon will both start and finish at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), with elite athletes running through the Coastal Road stretch as part of the full marathon. The Amateur Marathon will also begin at CSMT but conclude on MG Road near Bombay Gymkhana. The Half Marathon and Police Cup will start from Mahim Reti Bunder Ground at the Mahim Causeway and finish at OCS Chowki, taking runners through several prominent South Mumbai corridors.

Other race categories, including the Open 10K Run, Senior Citizens Run and the Dream Run, will begin at CSMT and finish on MG Road at the Metro Junction. The Champions With Disability (CWD) Run will start and end at CSMT, ensuring accessibility and logistical ease for participants.

Anil Kumbhare, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mumbai, said, “By incorporating the Coastal Road into the Mumbai Marathon 2026 route, we aim to present Mumbai at its finest on a global platform. This new route will offer marathon runners a unique and scenic experience, while ensuring the safety and ease of movement for other commuters as well. The route has been planned with extensive interagency coordination to ensure efficient traffic management, robust security deployment, and seamless operations, so that Mumbai continues to function smoothly on race day.”

Hugh Jones, Race Director, said, “As a race, over the last two decades, we have aimed to offer runners new experiences. With the inclusion of the new coastal road, the Mumbai Marathon not only captures the progress of this city but also retains part of the old route and its enduring charm.”

Vivek Singh, Joint Managing Director, Procam International, said, “The Mumbai Marathon has always reflected the spirit of the city. Introducing the Mumbai Coastal Road into the race route for the 21st edition is not only a historic milestone for the marathon but also a victory lap for the city’s progress. The new route combines the city’s heritage with its modern transformation, offering runners a truly world-class experience. We are truly grateful for the support of the Mumbai Police, MCGM, MSRDC and the Government of Maharashtra for their continued support and commitment to the Mumbai Marathon.”
