Soha Ali Khan Highlights Unsafe Footpaths In Mumbai, Calls Them ‘Death Traps’

Actor Soha Ali Khan has once again drawn attention to the poor state of pedestrian infrastructure in Mumbai, flagging serious safety concerns over damaged and neglected sidewalks. During an evening walk, the actor encountered a severely broken stretch of pavement, prompting her to describe Mumbai’s footpaths as “death traps”.

Sharing a video on her Instagram Stories, Soha documented herself cautiously manoeuvring across a collapsed sidewalk. What was meant to be a routine walk, she noted, turned into a risky exercise due to crumbling tiles and uneven surfaces. The video underscored the everyday hazards faced by pedestrians in the city, particularly senior citizens, children and those with mobility challenges.

This is not the first instance of the actor speaking out about civic issues in Mumbai. Earlier, she had highlighted what she described as prolonged and unsafe road construction in Bandra. In a previous social media post, Soha shared an image reflecting the on-ground reality of the area, showing her daughter Inaaya standing carefully on a muddy, broken road cluttered with barricades, debris and construction material. That post triggered widespread discussion online about pedestrian safety, urban planning and civic accountability.

Soha’s latest comments have once again resonated with many residents who regularly navigate damaged footpaths and poorly maintained public spaces across the city. Urban planners and citizen groups have repeatedly pointed out that inadequate pedestrian infrastructure not only inconveniences walkers but also increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

On the professional front, the actor recently marked 20 years of the release of her acclaimed film Rang De Basanti with a reunion of the cast and crew. The gathering brought together Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Atul Kulkarni, producer Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ajit Andhare.

Sharing moments from the celebration on social media, Soha posted a video of the team cutting a cake to commemorate the milestone, noting that while a few members were absent, the spirit of the film remained intact. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Rang De Basanti continues to be remembered for its powerful portrayal of youth, idealism and resistance against corruption.
